Gel nails – Simple tips for natural nail care

Well-groomed nails leave a positive impression on your personality. One of the most delicate parts of our body, the nails are constantly exposed to chemicals, water, heat, cold and other elements of nature. This tends to make them brittle, rough, and even prone to breaking at times. However, not everyone has the time or inclination to visit a nail spa every time to have beautiful nails. Nail care can be done even at home with some simple tips and techniques listed below:

o Always keep your nails clean and well groomed. Keep a toothbrush in the shower and use it on your nails each time to gently brush above and below your nails. Apply a cuticle cream/oil late at night to moisturize your nails.

o Be gentle with your hands and nails. Wear gloves while doing chores like dishes, gardening, or other cleaning tasks around the house. This will keep dirt off your nails and prevent splitting and discoloration due to exposure to chemicals or when performing tasks like cutting colored fruits and vegetables.

o Keep your nails to a reasonable length, depending on your schedule and daily tasks. Too long will cause frequent breakage and too short can make you look sloppy.

o Keep your nails painted with clear paint for a bright and healthy look or with some pastel shades that match most outfits. This will save you from painting your nails if you have to go out urgently. Also, always apply a second coat of paint after the first has completely dried.

o Use non-acetone remover to remove nail polish. Acetone tends to dry out cuticles and negatively affects nail health.

o Have a home manicure and pedicure kit on hand. Orange sticks, nail clippers, 240 grit file, nail brush, manicure and pedicure bowl. These will help you get decent nail maintenance at home and keep your nails healthy. Remember to regularly replace these implements and sterilize those that need it to prevent bacterial infections.

o Do not use your nails as tools to open bottles, letters just because you are in a hurry. This will cause long-term damage. Instead, use bottle openers, letter openers by hand
.
o Carry a vitamin E-enriched hand and nail cream with you and use it after washing your hands or when your hands feel dry. This will go a long way in maintaining beautiful nails and hands.

o If you notice any nail infection or abnormalities, visit a nail technician for the correct advice and repair. Don’t try ‘do it yourself’ damage control tricks.

o Try to visit a nail spa at least once a month to keep up with the latest nail care tips.

o Last but not least, follow a healthy diet regimen. Avoid fried and oily things, eat more fruits and vegetables and you will be in better health. And so will your nails.
