Introducing KwaZulu Natal

With its year-round warm weather, arguably the best in the world, and a wide range of activities in areas as diverse as the Drakensberg and the north and south coasts, visitors to KwaZulu Natal are spoiled for choice. This is one of the many reasons why the Zulu Kingdom is a popular destination for those seeking world-class experiences for a lifetime of unforgettable memories.

From the coast it is possible to observe majestic whales and dolphins frolicking on the shoreline or witness the migration of millions of sardines in Sardine Run during the colder months, attracting sharks and dolphins, a unique phenomenon not experienced anywhere else on the planet.

There’s also a wide variety of wildlife experiences on offer, from private to community game reserves, and take the opportunity to see the Big Six; lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos and whales in the space of one day within the Greater iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Climb or hike the trails of the majestic Drakensberg, visit historic towns or step back in history with the battlefields or stroll through the Midlands, a wonderful mix of arts, crafts and restaurants. There is something for everyone as adrenaline junkies can find their fix in adventurous activities such as rappelling the world’s highest gorge, white water rafting, diving among jagged tooth sharks, extreme hiking or mountain biking, to name just a small sample of what is on offer.

KwaZulu Natal is also a sportsman’s paradise with some of the best golf courses in South Africa. There are also world-renowned international events, such as the Comrades Marathon, the three-day Dusi Canoe Marathon, the Midmar Mile, and some grueling cycle races, including the Ashovashova Pietermaritzburg to Durban road race.

With miles of coastline, KwaZulu Natal also offers some of the best beaches in the world. Even during the winter months, the beaches are a great place to spend the day.
