Objections to the use of Feng Shui

1. Additional cost in the purchase of the property

Additional relevant information costs money.

It is standard practice to have a building inspector check to see if the house is safe for the occupants. So that, when you occupy the property, it is suitable for your use.

Calling a feng shui consultant is to check if the house will not create family problems: disharmony between members, additional financial problems, etc. Why did the previous owner sell the house in the first place?

For a commercial property such as a retail store, a feng shui consultant can identify if the premises will add to the business. Will there be many customers coming in and spending money? Also, to check if the relationship between staff, suppliers and customers will be good.

Or it will be a constant waste of resources with an extremely quiet store with no customers and a bad reputation.

A feng shui consultation costs money, but it’s like an investment, making sure your new home (or shop) is safe and adds to the purpose of moving.

2. My religious beliefs state that only God can help me.

So I don’t need any help, including feng shui.

Where do you draw the line on help? Using a car is about getting help with transportation. Feng Shui is not about religion or religious beliefs. It is about understanding the energy on earth and using it for our purposes, such as having homes to live in harmony. However, the buildings in which we can work.

3. Eastern mumbo-jumbo; Is it relevant to people in the West?

Feng Shui was developed some 40 centuries ago with the rise of the Chinese civilization. It is about understanding how nature works. It is about being able to live better. The Chinese, with their beginning before continuous civilization, have a number of inventions that are in common use today: paper, porcelain, compass, fireworks/heavy artillery, noodles/pasta, printing press, bureaucracy or government, to name a few. some. We use these inventions because they add to our lives.

4. What is the basis of Feng Shui? It is not scientific as we know.

We live in a scientific age. Everything needs a logical explanation for what they tell us. However, there are many things in this age that still cannot be explained by science even though it is in our lives every day. For example, the exact detail of how the information in the coil of the DNA helix is turned into the relevant protein is still unknown, but it happens all the time.

Chinese science comes from a different base. It still works logically, but the main principle is about energy. This is a totally different approach to Western science. Since I have worked as a scientist, the basis of science is observation and reproducibility. Can it be repeated constantly? The theory, or words, is built around observations.

For example: Gravity has been around since the beginning of planet Earth. Everyone on Earth lived on the surface due to gravity. The scientist Sir Isaac Newton put the theory to this observation. Until that moment, there was no explanation of how gravity worked, but he was there, working all the time. What I mean is that a phenomenon that is consistent and reproducible but cannot be explained by Western science is still a phenomenon that occurs. Western science is just a tool.

Feng Shui is a Chinese land management system based on observing the people who worked on the land. They observed how nature interacted with people and over time. From these observations, the rules were developed. Today, if you talk to any farmer, you will know where is the best place to keep different types of animals, where and when to get the best sustainable yields for crops, etc. Isn’t that land management?

Feng Shui is about living in harmony with nature. It is the study of both time and space. It is about the 4 dimensions in which we live.

5. I haven’t heard of it or not many people use it

There are many things that you may not be aware of. It’s definitely not a mainstream media. It has its own niche.

Feng Shui is mainstream in the Far East. Not only houses are designed with this Chinese system, but urbanizations (both commercial and residential), shopping centers and cities.

6. I have read some articles on feng shui, they seem to contradict each other.

Feng Shui is an ancient subject, it started around 4,000 years ago. As a result, there are many ways to do the same thing, for example: make an omelette or drive a car.

The main bottom line is that it works or else this topic would have been long gone. Feng shui has several different organizations or schools that teach and practice the subject in different ways.

An analogy: the UK and the US are both democratic countries, but the way each country is governed is different. The US has a president like the executive, congress, senate, and judiciary. The United Kingdom has a Prime Minister, a House of Commons and a House of Lords, a Judiciary, and a Constitutional Monarchy. They are different systems but both are democracies.

7. Successful companies don’t use it.

Feng Shui is used by many businesses in the East. Many of these companies now trade in the West: America and Europe. An example is HSBC and its former headquarters in Hong Kong is used as a Feng Shui case study.

Second, casinos in Asia and the West (Europe and North America) have been built with Feng Shui since the initial designs.

There are a number of successful companies whose buildings have been incorporated. Examples include Trump Towers in New York, Tesco in the UK. Several companies use it, but don’t say they use it because it offers a competitive advantage.
