Exogrid technology improves baseball bat performance

Exogrid is a new patented technology from Vyatek Sports Inc.

Each piece of Exogrid material begins life as a solid piece of strong, ultra-light metal such as titanium or other advanced alloys. Using state-of-the-art machining techniques, such as CNC laser cutting, the metal is cut leaving a metal mesh or matrix.

This unique metal mesh is then filled with an inner core of advanced composite such as carbon fiber. Using a proprietary bifusion process, the two dissimilar materials are fused together. This melting process requires intense heat and pressure to complete.

The result is a material that has exceptional qualities, combining both the resistance of metals and that of lightweight compounds. Exogrid has the strength of metal and the best torsional characteristics and design flexibility of composite material. Metal and composite have different natural frequencies that help dampen vibrations in the Exogrid material.

The material is being used in many applications, particularly in sports. Exogrid products exist in tennis, lacrosse, cycling, golf, and baseball.

In baseball, the Louisville slugger has introduced the TPX Exogrid baseball bat that uses Exogrid technology. Louisville Slugger claims the bat has a much stiffer handle than its competition’s bats. The lack of shaft flex allows for more springboard effect in the barrel of the bat to transfer force from the bat to the baseball and therefore propel the ball faster and further.

After testing the bat at BP, I can tell you that I am a believer. The bat consistently hits 40 to 50 feet. beyond my average. The bat is end weighted and designed to be a home run hitter’s bat.

I highly recommend the TPX Exogrid to any high school or college baseball player.
