Triphala: a wonderful herbal medicine

in Sanskrit, Classification means three, while fala means fruit. Thus, Triphala is a concoction made from 3 fruits. This herbal concoction has been used in Ayurveda for thousands of years.

Triphala has been used in Ayurveda to treat many different types of ailments, from tooth decay to digestive problems. It is an excellent example of polyherbal medicines as Ayurveda believes that a synergistic effect of different herbs could show a better effect than the individual effect of one drug.

Triphala is made up of fruit powders/extracts from 3 fruits – Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) and Bibhitaki (beler terminalia).

These 3 fruits are detailed below.

a) Amalaki (Emblica officinalis):

The fruits of this tree are widely known as Indian gooseberry or Amla. This fruit is a treasure and has many benefits:

  • The fruits of this plant have rejuvenating properties
