Navel Piercing Treatment

A navel piercing is usually done above the navel, although it is sometimes done below the navel as well. It is important to know that two piercings cannot be performed simultaneously, because body tissues shrink during the healing process and the channels interfere with each other to form freely. However, it is possible to have a piercing above and below the navel at the same time.

Belly button piercing treatment

The navel is a place where dirt from the body accumulates, which can cause a variety of infections. If the belly button has not completely dried out, it may be subject to the generation of bacteria. Therefore, as soon as you detect infections, inflammation and redness or feel itchiness or other strange symptoms, you should take immediate steps to treat them.

The belly button piercing is in one of the most flexible parts of the body. Constant movement of the waist can injure fresh piercings and the clothing you wear constantly rubs and touches the wound. With proper treatment, the navel wound heals completely in 3-4 months, but in some cases the healing process can take up to 12 months.

The duration of the cure depends on various factors such as your state of health, your weight, whether you follow a diet, the clothes you wear, your occupation, and most importantly, how carefully you take care of it. If you are concerned about possible difficulties with healing, it is better to insert a banana bar first than a ring to ensure it does not rotate.

For the first 4-5 days after your piercing, your belly button usually looks fine, and then you may spot some redness where the jewelry enters the body. A scab may start to form around the piercing, but you don’t have to worry because these are just dead white blood cells. There will be a small amount of fluid at the piercing site which is a sign that your body is fighting foreign matter. If it is a profuse discharge and the fluid turns yellow or you feel pain and notice excessive redness, it could be a sign of a possible infection.

In 6-8 weeks, the fluid discharge should subside and only some redness should remain around the piercing. The wound is not fully healed until the redness is completely gone. If you stop treating the wound before it heals, you may get an infection.

Navel Piercing Jewelry

Bananas and rings sized 1.6mm x 10mm/12mm are used for a standard initial navel piercing. Jewelry such as rings with pendants or large irregular edges (in the shape of a flower, for example) cannot be applied for the initial piercing. During pregnancy it is recommended to replace the navel ornament with a bar size 1.6mm x 16mm/18mm made of flexible Teflon. The change of the ornament should be done only after the complete healing of the wounds. If the piercing is below the navel, the banana barbell (standard navel piercing jewelry in the form of a curved pin with or without a gem) can also be inserted upside down.

Wearing a piercing during pregnancy

You can wear your navel piercing up to 6 months of pregnancy. However, it all depends on the state of health of the woman. Then the piercing jewelry must be removed or replaced with a large ring made of bioplastic.
