Golf in Palmas del Mar, Puerto Rico

With two championship golf courses to choose from, both offering panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, the golf facilities at Palmas del Mar Resort are a delight for any golf enthusiast. Designed by Reese Jones, an acclaimed golf course architect, the Flamboyán course opened in 1998, is the longer of the two courses at 7,117 yards, and is considered the best and highest ranked in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

The course is equipped with a plethora of wonderfully designed and memorable challenging holes that are definitely worth exploring. The course’s fairways open along a 20-acre freshwater lake, some bordering the Caribbean Sea and others intersecting the Candelero River. The 12th hole of the Flamboyán golf course is a solid par three that requires a deft shot to reach an elevated green that is hidden behind a canal complete with a stunning backdrop of the island of Vieques.

Considered the longest and most challenging golf course in the Caribbean, the Flamboyán golf course has received several awards since its creation, including the award for Best Course from Barron’s magazine and the Golf Digest award for Best Golf Course in Puerto Rico.

Opened in 1974 and originally designed by golf champion Gary Player, the Palm is the smaller of the two courses at the Palmas del Mar beach resort, but it’s no less challenging than its sister course, the Flamboyán. The course features tree-lined fairways and rolling greens, and is made challenging and interesting by bunkers, tropical roughs and strategically placed bunkers. Succeeding on the Palm golf course requires superior accuracy from the tree, which is often a challenge even for experienced golfers.

The 14th and 16th holes of the Palm Golf Course offer unobstructed views of the Caribbean Sea, giving players an excellent opportunity to experience the wonders of nature. In addition to the two golf courses, Palmas del Mar resort golf facilities include a double-ended driving range, two practice greens, an exciting junior program, practice clinics for golfers of all levels, all supervised by two golf professionals.

Spread over an expansive 40,000 square feet, the on-site golf clubhouse offers a mix of recreation and resort and is complete with the pro shop, members lounge, daytime restaurant and grill, and even a covered patio. In addition, the clubhouse also offers locker rooms for ladies and gentlemen, and separate locker rooms for resort guests along with a massage room and bag storage.

If you are looking to live the best and most memorable golf experience or simply a relaxing day among incredible landscapes, the Palmas del Mar resort should not be missed.
