Holland, Michigan is located on the shore of Lake Michigan. This small and beautiful city in western Michigan has many attractions to see for many visitors from around the world. City of Holland has a strong feeling of Dutch history and the architecture reflects this. More than 2 million people visit this western Michigan destination each year.

If we start our trip in May, a must see place is the annual Tulip Time Festival. More than 500,000 tulips are planted each year, making the city sparkle in the warm spring sun. The traditional street parade has people dressed in traditional costumes with Dutch attributes. Explore Dutch culture and old traditions that never die in the city of Holland.

The “Big Red” lighthouse is another attraction for visitors. Located in Holland State Park, it allows people to walk along the shore of Lake Michigan and take great photos of the lighthouse. There is an $8 fee to enter this location and park your car very close to the shoreline.

The historic center of Holland has a good variety of shops and restaurants. It amazes with its Victorian-style architecture, trendy boutiques and elegant restaurants for all to enjoy. It has festivals throughout the year. The month of September is famous for the “Tulips Latin Art and Film Festival” and “Holland Walk For Water”.

The next stop at the Holland Museum at 31 West 10th Street will introduce you to the history of the city. It will tell you the story of the arrival of the Dutch in 1847, the brutal fire of 1871 and the famous birthday of the Tulip Festival.

Don’t forget to stop in the nearby town of Saugatuck. Enjoy an excellent cruise aboard the “Star of Saugatuck” ship. Dinner cruises will be a good thrill for you and your loved one. If you want more action, go to Dune Rides, where 40 min. Riding the dunes of Lake Michigan will make you wonder why you’ve never been to the beautiful city of Holland, Michigan.
